DIABETIC EYE EXAM
While most are aware of diabetes' impact on overall health, its effects on eye health are often overlooked. Diabetes is one of the leading causes of blindness in the United States, as uncontrolled blood sugar levels can damage the blood vessels in the eye. Since diabetic eye disease often has no symptoms in its early stages, it’s crucial to schedule a comprehensive eye exam regularly, rather than waiting for symptoms to appear. Early detection and treatment of diabetic eye disease can significantly reduce the risk of permanent vision loss. The AOA recommends that all diabetic patients have a fundus eye exam every year.
At Vision Source Mustang, we use advanced technology to detect early signs of diabetic eye disease. Our Optos camera takes high-resolution, wide-field images in under two minutes, allowing us to closely monitor your eye health over time. Additionally, we use Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to capture detailed cross-sectional images of the retina, helping our doctors identify swelling that can occur with diabetic retinopathy.
